BAUGNIET - I am reseaching the following Manitowoc County surnames on my father's side: BAUGNIET, PLANTE/LAPLANT, MCKEOUGH, BONDE, LUMMERDING. I have a lot of info on most of these names, particularly LUMMERDING and BAUGNIET. I know that the MCKEOUGH family(from Ireland) lived in/near Kossuth Twp. The BAUGNIET family(originating in Belgium) resided primarily in the Mishicot area. I am willing to share what information I have, and am someone can help me to fill in the blanks. BELL - Searching for descendants of any German families who entered the US through Charleston, SC in the 1840s and 1850s. It was reported that a number of families from Germany came first to Charleston, and not liking it, "went west to Wisconsin." Another thread of evidence suggests that they might have come to Manitowoc County.

BENZINGER - I am looking for links to my grandmothers family. Josephine Benzinger was the daughter of Joseph Benzinger and Caroline Kuntz (Kunze or Kunz) both of Gremany. Josephine was born on 7 october 1874 in Wisconsin. I found a family in Manitowoc Co Federal Census 1880 that appears to be the the same family. An inquiry to the Vital Records in Madison resulted in no birth certificate found for Josephine. I believe she grew up in Milwaukee as her father worked for the Railroad there in the shops. Josephine married a Mr. Boehn. Her second husband was Charles Danile Hannon my grandfather. They married in El Centro CA 1914. I have found several Kuntz families in Germans to America but to date have not made any firm ties. Can anyone help me? - Steve Hill

BETTS - Aaron Hoag Betts was born 14 March 1822 in New York. We are trying to find out where in New York (what county and city). He died 4 Jan. 1874 in Cato, Manitowoc co. Wisconsin. We would like to find the location of the cemetery where he and his wife (Abigail Lovinna Jackson Betts) are buried. Abigail Lovinna Jackson was born 14 Nov. 1832. She died 19 Sept. 1881 in Cato, Manitowoc co. WI. We have information on her parents. Aaron Hoag Betts and Lavinna Jackson married 11 Aug. 1850 at Stockbridge, Calumet co. WI. BOGENSCHUTZ - I am trying to fine a listing of my great great grandparents children. Their names were Ignatz Bogenschutz and his wife Fredericka Konstanzer. They are buried in Manitowoc County. There must be census that would list there children. I think maybe 1865 or 1870. I know my grandfather Christian was born in 1849 in New York and they later moved to Manitowoc Co. BRUNMEIER - I am researching my ancestors from Manitowoc, Wi area. Joseph Brunmeier, from Austria, lived in St. Nazianz. Frank Kerscher, from Bavaria, lived in Manitowoc also Kewaunee Co., blacksmith, farmer, made cheese; Anton Vogt, from Prussia, b. abt 1833; Fredericka Witt, all I know about her is that she supposedly conceived my great-grandmother Wilhemina Witt (Minnie) on the boat from Germany, Minnie was Born Dec. 27, 1874 (thanks BETH!) BUXBAUM - Am looking for background on Elmer "Al" Buxbaum. Born Nov. 30, 1914 in Cicero, Il. Owned and operated Buxbaum Plumbing in Manitowoc until he retired in 1970. Married Virginia Lusk December 29, 1935 in Chicago. He passed away April 25, 1984 in St. Petersburg, Fla. They had four children - Donald, Robert, Linda, and Stephen. He is my grandfather (Donald is my father). Al had a brother, Herman, who lived in Michigan and California ,and a brother Irving, who preceeded him in death. Would like any information possible. CROWE - To all, the name Manitowoc in the obituary of Mary Elizabeth Harlow Crowe (died in Iowa), led me to this web site, it seems as though I have found information on the declaration of intent for William Patrick Crowe through this web site. It seems as though he immigrated in 1867 and was in WI until before 1880. He married Mary Elizabeth Harlow in a Chilton, WI in 1871. DEWERS - I am trying to locate relatives of HEINRICH F DEWERS who drowned 17 May 1899 in Jetzer Lake in the town of Herman at the age of 18 while attending Franklin Mission House. He may have had other relatives of the Dewer family living in Manitowoc or Kiel or Chilton. I have unidentified photos taken by photophers in those three locations. LAFOND - I'm looking for information, of any kind, on Francis B. Lafond born on December 28, 1862 and on his wife Julia Martelle born on May 7, 1860. Both people were born in Two Rivers. I'm also looking for information on Mitchell Martelle, Julia's father. He was listed on the 1860 census but was absent from the 1880 census. Mitchell's wife Henriette, or Harriet, was listed on the 1880 census with a William Greenwood. All the Martelle children were also listed with him. LENERVILLE/LENAVILLE/LENNEVILLE - I am looking for information on the LENERVILLE, LENAVILLE, or LENNEVILLE families that settled in Manitowoc Co. during the 1840's. My great-grandfather, John LANAVILLE, immigrated from Canada to Manitowoc Co. in 1844 (according to info in the census records of 1910). His date of birth is either January, 1824 or January 1827 depending on which records one looks at. He died in 1923 in Menominee Co., MI. His death record says his father's name was Frank (perhaps Francis?) but at least relative insists his father's name was also John. It is said that John LANAVILLE'S father came from France>England>Canada>Wisconsin. John married (between 1865 and 1870)a woman named Delia LAURIE,(b. about 1849) who may also have lived in Manitowoc Co. They eventually moved to Oconto and then on to Menominee Co. MI. I have information on John and Delia LANAVILLE'S decendants I am willing to share. I hope someone can give me more information on the family when they lived in Manitowoc Co. Mattson - Looking for Siebert Andrew Mattson.  He was born August 1884, in "Manitowoc, WI" but cannot find a record, to Andrew Mattson (born Norway) and Dora Busch/Bush, who possibly was from Door County. Mattson - MATTSON, Siebert, son of Andrew and Dora Bush/Busch MATTSON, was supposedly born Manitowoc (Co? or City?) WI August 1884, but can find no record of his birth, or his parents. An only child. PHELPS - Elnathan (1816-1871) and his wife Lucinda "Lucy" WILSON (1823-c.1869).  Both of them were b. in VT; they came to WI from upstate NY sometime after 1856; they were enumerated in Kossuth township in the Census of 1860 (p. 536) and they left WI for Merrick Co. NE sometime before 1867.  Elnathan and Lucy had several children who might have attended the local schools:  Martha b. 1843, Jane 1845, Ada 1847, William 1849 (my great-grandfather), Ann "Eliza" 1853, Rosalia "Rose" 1856, Mary 1858, Abraham Lincoln "Lincoln" 1861, and Carrie 1863.  Only the last two are known to have been b. in WI.  I find no record of Elnathan recording a homestead in Manitowoc, and since his occupation in the 1850 Census was "farm hand," there's no reason to think that he arrived in WI with even the small amount of cash needed to stake a claim.  He was a farmer when the family moved to NE.  I will be grateful for any information Paul B. RABE - I wish to first thank you for the work you've done, you're internet site is remarkable. I am beginning a study of me fraternal family, the Rabe surname. Most of the older branches still live in the Kiel area. I am really looking for a Bertha rabe, the first wife of Frederick Rabe. He is buried in 87 (Zion Lutheran Cemetary), born Sept 4, 1832, died April 26, 1908. His second wife (from which they had 8 children) is Wilhelmina, and buried same place (same stone). My relative, Frederick R. Rabe is the first son of this Frederick, and a Bertha Rabe, the 3 came to the US from Brandenburg in 1863. Bertha died shortly after (in childbirth?), and he remarried Wilhelmina (Minnie). I assume this Bertha's Birth similar to Fred's, around 1832 in Prussia, and est. death at around 1864?  asupmdr@cyberramp.net

RESCH - I am looking for information on the families of Joseph Resch married to Magdalena Stadler who came over from Austria with their children Mary, Elizabeth, Bertha, Barbara, Frank and Laura and had two more children in

Roemer - I am searching for the grandparents of Loui Jacob Charles Roemer, born May 31, 1867/68 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Loui's father was Lou Roemer, born about 1832 in Saxony and came to America with his parents to Oshkosh, Wisconsin in about 1843. Lou Roemer's parents first names are unknown but his father was a Roemer and his mother's maiden name was McDougal. The family came from Saxony to America. Lou Roemer married Anne Eliza Lott and they and their son Loui later settled in Minnesota. Anne's father was Jeremiah Lott, b.1818 in N.J. and her mother was Sarah Lott, b. in New Brunswick, Canada.
