Miss Helen Adams

Miss Helen Adams, was named 1961 national
teacher of the year. A Cumberland
kindergarten
teacher, the award was made by President John F. Kennedy, who said,
"Miss
Adams will stand as an example to future teachers and an inspiration to
all Americans
for
dedication and warmth, and her struggle against high odds to become a teacher."
