From the earliest days in 1855 when the small settlement of Fosters Crossing was established - through the 1899 tornado that killed 117 people and leveled the City - into the "war years" - and up to the turn of the most recent century, New Richmond has a well documented past in "They Built Their City Twice." The author, Mrs. Sather, has a master of arts degree in history and is the Curator of the New Richmond Preservation Society's Heritage Center. With ten historic buildings and over 17,000 cataloged artifacts the Heritage Center is a place where the past is knee deep and you can't help but soak up local history.
