Baraboo News Republic Monday, July 27, 1959 H.K. Page Dies Sunday Harlan Kingsbury Page (photo) Harlan K. Page, 85, passed away on sunday afternoon about 4 o'clock at St. Mary's Ringling hospital where he had been confined for the past three weeks. He had been in failing health since December, having made his last visit to his desk in the News-Republic office just before Christmas; he had since been confined to his home and the hospital. Mr. Page had been an editor of the Baraboo News-Republic since 1909. Born in Madison in 1874, he had attended Beloit college and the University of Wisconsin. He was married to Beatrice A. Kelly in Madison in 1896, and she had preceded him in death, September 25, 1948. Surviving him are his two sons, Harlan Page, and M.C. Page, who have been associated with him in business here; three grandchildren, Patricia Page, now Mrs. R.C. DiRenzo of Menasha. Curt Page of Baraboo, and Pamela Page now Mrs. Joseph Kiser of Minneapolis. There are also four great-grandchildren. Mr. Page came from a family of newspaper men, his father and grandfather having been in the newspaper business before him. Prior to coming to Baraboo, where he had purchased a half interest in the Baraboo Daily News in 1909, he had worked on the Chicago Tribune and Madison Democrat, an earlier morning paper in Madison. Baraboo was the boyhood home of the deceased as he had made his home with an aunt, Mrs. E.P. Lewis, here for many years. Following the early death of his father, an earlier editor of the State Journal in Madison, and the return of his mother to the stage, Mr. Page had come here as a youth. He saw the merger of the Daily and Weekly Republic with his paper in 1929. One of the oldest newspaper men in the state, he had been active in the newspaper business for more than 50 years. Prior to December of this past year, he had taken a keen interest in the affairs of this paper and he had made an almost daily appearance at the News-Republic office. Mr. Page was a Past Exalted Ruler of the Baraboo lodge of Elks, was a member of the Masonic orders including the Shrine, belonged to Trinity Episcopal church, the Koshawagoes club, the Madison club, was affiliated with Sigma Delta Chi journalism fraternity, the Modern Woodman, and many other organizations. the funeral of Mr. Page will be held on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal church, with burial in Walnut Hill cemetery.
