The Reedsburg Times Reedsburg, Wisconsin Friday, April 11, 1913 Geffert Mrs. Katherine Surke, Geffert was born Oct. 22, 1839 at Barum, Hanover, Germany. At the age of 15 years she came to this country with her mother, and their first home was in the town of Westfield. In the year 1860 she was married to Henry Geffert. In 1866 they moved to this city. Five children were born to them, one died in infancy and the rest survive the mother and were present at the funeral. They are: William and Albert of this city, Walter of Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Ernest Herzog of Tracy, Minn. Mr. Geffert died in Maryland, in the year 1898 and since that time, Mrs. Geffert has lived in this city, keeping house in her own home, but tenderly cared for by her children and grandchildren. She was a faithful mother, industrious and careful of the little duties which make up life. She never neglected a duty and thus endeared herself to her own family, her neighbors and all who knew her. She had gradually failed in health and passed away Saturday, Apr. 5, at 9:15 a.m., at the home of her son, William, where she had been taken since her illness. Asthma and heart trouble caused her death. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of which she was a faithful lifetime member. Rev. Paul Schaller conducted the service. Contributed by Darlene Penisten
