Reedsburg Times Press, Thursday, February 28, 1985 SISTER MARY CURTIN A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Sister Mary Daniel Curtin, SSND, on February 18 at Notre Dame Health Care Center, Elm Grove. Sister had died of cancer at St. Francis Hospital, Tusla, OK, after only a few days of illness. She was 66 years old. Sister had been missioned in Tahlequah, OK since August, 1983, as a member of an interprovincial team of School Sisters of Notre Dame working among the Cherokee Indians. She was especially involved in setting up an Activity Center for youth and women in Marble City, OK. One of the 14 children of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Curtin of Reedsburg, Sister Mary Daniel entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Milwaukee in 1936 and took her first vows in 1939. During a teaching career that spanned 42 years, she taught at several schools, spending at least six years at each of the following: St. Leo, Milwaukee, 1939-1946; St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay, 1949-1955; St. James, Madison, 1959-1965 and as principal at St. Malchy, Horicon, 1969-1981. She also served as coordinator of the SSND convent at St. Kilian, Hartford, 1982-1983. She is survived by nine brothers and sisters: Mrs. Kyra See of Lodi; Keith Curtin of Reedsburg; Sister Mary Kyron Curtin, SSND, provincial counselor of the Milwaukee province; Patrick Curtin, Lake Mills, Mrs. Olive Crawley, Palmyra; Donald Curtin, Kenosha; Larry Curtin, North Freedom, Mrs. Dana Crawley, Mukwonago and Mrs. Carol Anchor, Wisconsin Dells. submitted by Mary (Curtin) Schultz 9-1-2004
