Reedsburg Times 01 April 1904 page 1 DROPPED DEAD Ex-Mayor PETER BYRNE Dropped Dead Tuesday Morning Reedsburg was profoundly stirred Tuesday by the suddden death of Ex-Mayor Peter Byrne. Death came instantly and without a moment's warning. Mr. Byrne had been engaged as usual about the warehouse during the forenoon and shortly before noon had occasion to attend to some errands on his way home when the end came, Mr. Byrne sinking into the arms of a friend. The funeral was held Thursday forenoon at the Catholic church and was attended by a large concourse of citizens, including the Modern Woodmen of America in a body. The remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery in Winfield. Mr. Byrne was a native of Ireland, a public spirited, good hearted man whose sudden death is a heavy blow to the wife and family and deeply deplored in this city. He was a loyal member of the Catholic church and indefatigable in its behalf. He served the city as mayor one term and always took the greatest interest in the city's welfare.
