Baraboo News Republic November 16, 1906 An Ex-Sheriff Called Beyond This afternoon about 1:30 S.M. Burdick passed away at his home on Third avenue. Last spring he suffered a slight stroke of paralysis and since then has been in failing health. During the two weeks just passed he complained of heart trouble and this was the immediate cause of his death. Deceased was born in the State of New York in 1820 and had he lived until the 9th of next month would have been 86 years of age. In his native state he married Bessie A. Caldwell who passed away some years ago. Afterwards hw married Sarah A. Roberts who survives. After coming to Wisconsin he resided at different times in north Freedom, on Sauk Prairie, in Waukesha and at Baraboo. The greater portion of his life was spent in the Gem City. For more than 30 years he was in the employ of the Chicago and North-Western and for two years he was sheriff of Sauk County. He was an attendant at the Baptist Church in this city. Besides his wife he leaves the following children: Charles Burdick of Baraboo; Mrs. S.E. King of the town of Sumpter; Ira Burdick of Moulton, Iowa; Mrs. John Zerrel of San Martine, California; and Mrs. George B. Dash of Rio, Wis. Three children have passed into the beyond.
