The present winter has not been so hard upon the fruit and forest trees as were thetwo former winters, as the cold has not been nearly so severe. Even should we receivecold weather from now on there is considerable snow upon the ground which will protectthe trees to a certain extent. A great amount of timber was killed in the two formeryears, owing to severe frost and the lack of snow as a protection to the roots, andmany a fine patch of timber was nearly destroyed and all groves suffered greatly.
