LOCAL MATTERS

Henry HAAS of Thiensville will have a grand ball on Whit Sunday.

Mr. John VOGENITZ of Milwaukee is at home for a few week's vacation.

The Saukville Mills has been rented of Mr. A. KOENIG to Mr. SCHULZ of Silver Spring.

Dan DENEEN of the town of Jackson informs us that he owns a cow that gave birth tothree calves last week.

Mr. Andreas ARMBRUSTER and Miss Augusta BOHRTZ, both of this city, were married onSaturday 9th day of May.

Mr. Fred BECKMANN wishes to inform those parties that borrowed his electric batterysome time ago, to return it at once.

Wirth Bros., new store will soon be completed and opened for business. They willuse the south side of the store for the dry goods and grocery department and thenorth side for the boot and shoe establishment.

We learn that F.G. MEMMLER of Thiensville is doing a good business in his new hotel.The traveling public will find good accommodation and at reasonable rates at hishotel.

The opening of Hilgen's Spring Part will take place next Sunday. A grand concertwill be given in the afternoon and a ball in the evening. Hilgen Bros. invite alltheir friends to attend.

The first concert given by the Thiensville-Mequon Jugend Orchester last Sunday in the Mequon Turn Hall was well attended. The boys done very well for the first timeand were loudly applauded by the audience. Quite a number of our citizens were present.

OBITUARY -- Again the hand of death has removed one of the first settlers of thiscity, in whom we also mourn the loss of an old and devoted friend. Ernst HILGEN isno more; he died yesterday morning at 6 o'clock at his residence near the ColumbiaMills in the 55th year of his age having been born on November 5th 1831 in Oldenburg,Germany. After the late Frederick HILGEN, one of the founders of this city, settledhere permanently, he caused his brother, the father of our deceased friend, to comehere with his family from Germany. The deceased, then a smart active boy of 16 yearswas given a place in the flouring mills of his uncle where he learned the miller'sprofession; he afterwards was one of the owners of the Columbia Mills, having firstbeen engaged by the then owner of there mills, Mr. PFEIL as head miller. He was marriedto his first wife when but 21 years of age, who died some five years after her marriage;of the two boys born Ernst is the only survivor, residing in Milwaukee in chargeof the city business of the Hilgen Manufacturing Comp. and being one of the its stockholders.

With his second wife, who died two years ago last fall, he has several children survivinghim; Fred, a prosperous merchant at Racine, William formerly with his half-brotherErnst but now here since the opening of the store by the deceased, and a youngerdaughter Johanna yet at home.

Besides these children, the deceased leaves two sisters and one brother residinghere, and his old mother now 84 years of age.

The many friends of the deceased will by sorry to learn the news of his death, whichwas caused by air affection of the lungs and throat.
