Ozaukee Obituary Mr. and Mrs. Anton WEISS

Port Washington Star
March 11, 1899

It is an uncommon occurrence when man and wife, who have been companions on life's journey for nearly half a century, pass over into spirit life and join the great majority within a few hours of each other. This was the case when Mr. and Mrs. Anton WEISS, aged and respected residents of Knellsville.

Last Friday, March 3, at 2:45 P.M., Mrs. WEISS passed away, and on Monday, March 6, Mr. WEISS joined her in the spirit land. The death of the former was due to appoplexy. Mr. WEISS had suffered for a long time with a brochial trouble and the shock of his wife's unexpected death was undoubtedly more than his debilitated system could withstand. It was known that his end was not far off but none expected him to go so soon.

Mrs. WEISS was buried last Sunday in St. Mary's cemetery. A large concourse of sorrowing friends followed the remains of their last resting place. The body of Mr. WEISS was interred beside that of his wife on Wednesday and in this instance also a large number of old friends testified by their presence at the funeral the respect and esteem in which the dead man was held. May their souls rest in peace!

Mrs. WEISS (Susan MILLER) was born May 20, 1828, in Bettendorf, Grand Duchy of Luxemburg, Germany, and came to Detroit, Mich., in 1851. Mr. WEISS was born in Maesdorf, Luxemburg, Germany, Dec. 9, 1824, and came to this country in 1849. They were married in Windsor, Canada, Jan. 9, 1854, in which place they lived until 1859, when they removed to Port Washington, settling at Knellsville. Here they remained until 1863, when Chicago became their home. In 1871 they returned to their old homestead at Knellsville where they continued to reside up to the time of their demise.

Nine children were born of this union, only one of whom, Mr. Math. WEISS of Chicago, survives. This gentleman is one of Chicago's most successful business men - a member of the firm of MINNEWEGEN & WEISS - and has an extensive acquaintance among all classes. To him in his hour of double bereavement is extended the heartfelt sympathy of all.

Mr. Math. WEISS was accompanied here to attend the funerals by his wife and son. John SONNTAG, one of his business associates, was also here, and so were Thomas BOEHM, wife and son of Milwaukee.
