Golden Even Held Sunday for Port Washington Pair

Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Runkel, 748 Larabee St., Port Washingnton, celebrated theirgolden wedding anniversary Sunday, with a dinner and open house.

Town Saukville was birthplace of Mrs. Runkel, nee Dorothea Maechtle, Oct. 24, 1883.Her husband was born Nov. 10, 1880. The couple's marriage June 16, 1880 (should beJune 16, 1908) was performed by the Rev. G. E. Epp, Grand Avenue Evangelical UnitedBrethren Church, at the Maechtle homestead, Saukville.

They resided for four years in Chicago, Ill., and for the remainder of their marriedlife in Port Washington. Mr. Runkel was one of the first Chicago and NorthwesternRailway personal (sic) at the Port Washington depot, where he served for six years.For 32 years, until his recent retirement, he was employed as shipping foreman atWisconsin Chair Co., Port Washington.

Three of their original attendants are living today. They are Walter Maechtle, TownSaukville, Monroe Maechtle, Town Port Washington, and Else Runkel Kern, Hopkins,Mich.

The honorees have a son, Edward R. Runkel, Port Washington, and a duaghter, RuthHelen Runkel, who is a nurst at the Veterans Hospital, Waukesha. They also have sevengrandchildren.

Dinner for members of the family and other relatives was served at Smith Bros. FishShanty, and was followed by a reception at the Runkel home, where they received manyflowers, gifts and congratulatory messages for their anniversary.
