Rock County Insane Asylum, Janesville Wisconsin's Insane in Institutions. September 30, 1900, there were 4,858 insane under public care. Of these 424 were in the State Hospital, 585 in the Northern Hospital and 455 in the Milwaukee Hospital for the insane; a total of 1,464 in hospitals. There were 3,394 in the twenty-seven county asylums for the chronic insane, making 4,858 confined in asylums and hospitals
