The handwritten note on the top of the first map states:

Lecture March 18th, 1897
to the Battalion on the Battle of Gettysburg
by Gen. Bryant, Dean of University of Wisconsin."


The first map has a Memoranda on it, which states:

The regiment arrived at Harpers Ferry July 18, 1861, from Wisconsin. Served in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania, 2 years, 2 months and 16 days - in the Army of the Shenandoah under Gen Banks; the Army of Virginia under Gen Pope; the Army of the Potomac under Generals McClellan, Burnside, Hooker and Meade, also under Gen Canby in New York City during the draft riots of August 1863.
The Brigade in which it served was composed of the 2nd Mass; 27th Indiana; 3rd Wisconsin; 107th New York and the 18th New Jersey - and was successively commanded by Generals Geo H Thomas; A.S. Williams; Geo H. Gordon; Geo. W. Greene and Thomas H. Ruger.
Battery M. 1st New York Light Artillery was attached to the __ Brigade during the whole war. The Regiment left Bealton Sta. Virginia, October 3rd, 1863 with the 12th Corps to join the Army of the Cumberland at Chattanooga Tennessee.
