Historical Company, Chicago, 1880, page 999 GEORGE HEILMANN, proprietor of the Madison Bakery, Madison, Wis.; was born in Bavaria, Germany, Oct. 10, 1847; in 1855 he came from Germany, with his parents, and went direct to Addison, Washington Co., Wis., where he remained living on a farm, until about 13 years of age, when he went to Kenosha, Wis., and learned the baker's trade with his uncle, John B. KUPFER, of that place. He was in Kenosha for five years, and then, in 1873, removed to Madison, Wis., where he has ever since had control of the Madison Bakery. July 3, 1873, he was married to Miss Julia E. BAYER, who was born April 17, 1855; they have one child - Emma E., born May 20, 1877. The family belongs to the German Catholic Church.
