Mary Mike--Sales Lady

Mary Mike was a saleslady who traveled through the countryside on foot carrying large suitcases on her back soldier fashion. In these suitcases were tablecloths, doilies, some yard goods, laces, thread, needles and pins, hooks and eyes, combs, shoelaces and such. These she sold to her customers as she went from house to house. Mary Mike was friendly and liked by
everyone. No one knew how old she was and where she made her home or where she spent her winter months. Mary Mike has geen gone many years but even today when her name is mentioned people say--"Oh I remember her. She stayed overnight at our place one time." Little did she think that she would be remembered for such a long time and that her name would go
down in history.

The city folks, especially the children all knew about Old Lady Dillon. In the countryside it was Matt Dillion her husband who was remembered. He drove through the country with his one horse and wagon selling his wares. These consisted mostly of dry goods, etc..

Another salesman traveling through the rural districts with his horse and wagon was Sabotino Donatelle who sold groceries. He was a welcome sight to those in need of food. People didn't get to town very often those days.
