Falcon Drill Company, Inc.

Falcon Drill Company, Inc., was founded in May 1962 by a partnership of C.R. "Si" Brock and C. Wm. Mossberg. Construction of machinery, designed by Mr. Brock, began in the workshop of Mr. Mossberg's home. Assisting were Peter and Frank Csuti and Victor Yarkoff.

To house this machinery a steel building was erected on Highway 48 and 63 on the west edge of Cumberland. The building consisted of 1,800 square feet of office space and 4,000 square feet for manufacturing. The manufacture of High Speed Twist Drills (drill bits) began officially in October 1962 with a handful of employees. Falcon experienced the usual difficulties and "growing pains" of a new company which eventually led to the closing of the factory in February 1963. After reorganization it reopened March 25, 1963 with C.R. Brock, President; Frank Csuti, Vice President; Peter Csuti, Treasurer and Rose Brock Secretary. The untimely death of "Si" Brock in November 1967 necessitated a change of corporation officers. Frank Csuti, President, Peter Csuti, Vice President, Rose Brock, Secretary-Treasurer. These officers remain the same today.

Over the years the Company has continued to grow. Today it employs 66 people from Cumberland and the surrounding area full time. Four of these people were in the original "handful." Automatic machinery is now being used in addition to the regular operator controlled machines. In early 1974, 2,200 square feet of floor space was added to house this machinery and for storage space.

Falcon Drill specializes in small diameter drills. The smallest is .0059", about the size of a hair, and the largest, .1875", a 3/16' diameter. Larger sizes are bought and sold with the Falcon guarantee. Their uses are many and varied. For example: Falcon drills have been used to make the eye in a suture needle. With few exceptions, Falcon can supply a drill for any size hole in any type material you desire.

Quality and service have made Falcon a successful business. But the success of any business depends on good employees and Falcon is no exception.

Barring the unforeseen, Falcon Drill Company will be a part of Cumberland's future as well as its history.
