Cumberland Pickle Factory

The M.A. Gedney Company of Minneapolis, Minnesota had a cucumber pickle or salting station at Cumberland, Wisconsin from 1912 to 1950.

Thomas St. Angelo was manager from 1912 to 1919. Marshall Skinner was in charge from 1919 to 1933.

The Cumberland station was one of the largest receiving stations in the state. As many as 2,000 barrels of dill pickles were packed per season. This took 20,000 (Submitter's notation: There appears to be some information missing here) cucumbers and 200 tons of cauliflower.

The early years were the horse and buggy days. At times the wagons would be lined up for blocks waiting to be unloaded.

During these years there were numbers of people who worked at the station who can recall some of the busy rushing seasons.

The following are some of the persons who worked at the factory: Louis Zappa, Dominic DeNucci, Louis DeNucci, Joe DeNucci, Sr., Chester Lerdall, Lee Dague, Tony Gigio, Jim Zappa, Anna Zappa, Minnie Zappa, Connie Hanson, Dorothy Hanson, Anna Ranallo, Jennie Ficocello and Rose Ranallo.
