Congregational Church

In May, 1888, a Congregational Sunday School was instituted, and in August of the same year the Revenant T.F. Murphy came to the city and conducted services. In the following October a Congregational Church was organized with fourteen members. The services were held for a while in Miller's Hall. In the spring of 1889 the Society purchased the building known as
Gymnasium Hall and altered and fitted it up for church purposes. In 1909 the church building was remodeled. In 1922 the church had about 50 members.

The Revenant T.F. Murphy was the pastor for several years, and since then the church has had a number of others, including the Reverend E.D. Bennett, Reverend I.B. Tracy, Reverend Julius Parsons, Reverend W.T. Ream, Reverend Lewis Skidmore and Reverend J.H. Bielefield.

This church organization was dissolved in the late twenties and members of the congregation were absorbed into other local churches.
